Since 2003, the LEC has been operating a test centre on the Inffeld campus of Graz University of Technology with a high-performance and highly flexible infrastructure as a basis for the development of innovative concepts for green energy and transport systems. This enables the centre to respond individually to the most diverse requirements and current issues from the R&D sector. In combination with many years of experience and a specially developed virtual development methodology (Large Engines Development Methodology, LDM for short), new ideas can be tested quickly and comprehensively and concepts for industrial implementation can be derived.
The LEC Test Centre comprises several test benches for single-cylinder research engines, a full engine or system test bench (output up to 3.5 MW) and a laboratory for basic experiments. The test benches can be operated with both conventional and all alternative fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, etc.
